Staff Educator
STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible to the Director of Education for providing sexual health education to the community and/or specified target populations in Spanish and English, demonstrating cultural competency required to serve a diverse population.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Uses appropriate, evidence-based curricula to provide health education in Spanish and English to participants in diverse community settings, including parents and teens.
- Provides a negotiated number of Straight Talk sessions with Variety Care, including pre- and post-tests and evaluations.
- Provides additional Straight Talk sessions as planned in other community settings, such as public libraries, including pre-and post-tests and evaluations.
- Provides specialized outreach and education to target populations.
- Works collaboratively with other community health organizations in order to maximize resources to reach targeted audiences.
- Uses culturally sensitive education materials and adapts existing materials for clients of diverse backgrounds.
- Teaches sexual health curricula, presentations and lesson plans to targeted audiences.
- Maintains and promotes program goals and objectives.
- Works with appropriate staff to manage program budget.
- Collects and monitors program data for tracking and monthly reporting.
- Assists in the development of new materials and innovative strategies to improve educational programs.
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with outside organizations to develop opportunities for additional educational offerings.
- Represents PPCO and promotes it mission and services to the community.
- Markets the program to community agencies, schools and program participants.
- Assists with program development and evaluation.
- Assists in staff development as assigned.
- Participates in organizational in-service activities and planning processes as a member of the PPCO professional staff.
- Engages in professional development as coordinated with supervisor.
- Networks with other agencies and groups in the community that are working toward common goals.
- Performs other duties as appropriate and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; Masters Degree from an accredited university in health education, human relations, or related field preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
- A minimum of three years experience in sexuality education or related education field.
- Ability to carry out all the functions and responsibilities of the job, with specified orientation and training.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to create comfortable, safe, and trusting learning environments where program participants feel at ease discussing sensitive subject matter.
- Demonstrated ability to train others, lead and facilitate groups, and deliver educational programs.
- Commitment to community engagement
- A knowledge of community; ability to maintain a presence in the community.
- Skills in marketing and public relations.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Ability to sit in one position for long periods, at a desk, in meetings, etc.
- Ability to stand up and sit down frequently throughout the day.
- Ability to lift and transport boxes up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to use close vision, hearing/listening and clear speech, walking, kneeling and bending.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to travel as needed and required.
- Must have reliable and available transportation.
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
- Other experience and training, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify the applicant.
